Julie joined the council at the end of 2016 because she loves living in Froyle and thinks that it’s important to find ways of supporting village life. Her favourite things about Froyle are the positivity, creativity, and the caring environment.
Julie is particularly proud of the refurbished war memorial, and the new playground. As the Chair, she is involved in all aspects of the Council’s work and responsibilities.
A keen gardener, Julie regularly supports the National Gardens Scheme by opening her garden, and also enjoys walking her dogs.
I’ve lived in Upper Froyle since January 2017 and over that time have become increasingly interested in what makes a village like ours work — and what could make it work better for more people.
I spend a lot of time out walking and hiking the surrounding countryside and care about protecting our natural environment and keeping it accessible for everyone. I’d like to contribute to any work the Parish Council does to support local wildlife, footpaths and our shared outdoor spaces.
I’m also keen to look at how we could build more of a connection between Upper and Lower Froyle. There’s a strong identity across the village but Upper Froyle can sometimes feel a bit cut off from the bulk of the community. I’d like to help change that where possible.
More broadly, I think there’s scope to work with nearby parishes to explore reviving local clubs and activities — especially for young people. Whether that’s grassroots football, cricket or something new, it would be good to see Froyle playing a part in creating those opportunities again and get some healthy rivalries going.
Lastly, I’d like to see more done to bring people together — especially men, who may not always have a natural outlet for connection or conversation. With growing awareness around men’s mental health and isolation, I’d be interested in what small, local steps we could take to address that.
As a Parish Councillor, I want to contribute something practical to the place I live and to support ideas that make Froyle more joined-up and inclusive.
I have lived in this part of Hampshire on and off since the 1980’s when I was based at RAF Odiham. My wife, Sarah, and I moved to Froyle in 2009 and quickly discovered how welcoming and sociable the village community is here.
As an outdoors person I enjoy local country sports, wrestling with the garden and walking the many footpaths around the village and further afield with friends. You can also find me wearing a dayglo jacket on car parking duty for various church and village events or (very occasionally…) in the pub.
I previously worked on the Village Design Statement and No Wey Incinerator teams, drive for the village Care Group and look forward to serving on the Parish Council.
Alex joined the council in 2016 because she’s interested in local affairs and wanted to do something for the village. Her favourite things about Froyle include the people, the countryside and the wildlife, particularly the skylarks, owls and the hedgehogs.
She is currently working on the hut refurbishment project, as well as liaising with the wedding venue to minimize its impact on the village.
Alex is a busy mother of two teenage girls and in any spare time, enjoys drawing and painting, cooking. She also takes part in target rifle shooting having previously been a member of the GB team.
Mike moved to Lower Froyle in 2019, and joined the Parish Council in 2023. Prior to joining the Parish Council he was part of the “No Wey Incinerator” team, successfully opposing the proposal to build a waste incinerator at the Veolia site on the A31.
His favourite things about Froyle are the community spirit, and beautiful rolling countryside, which he and his wife enjoy out and about on their tandem bicycle, or on long walks together.
Katie grew up in rural Kent and returned to the countryside by moving to Froyle in 2019 after 30 years in London. She loves the strong sense of community and can’t imagine living anywhere else now.
Katie was involved in the successful campaign against the proposed local incinerator and has a background in industrial planning as well as environmental matters.
Katie loves gardening, cooking and travelling and can’t live without cups of tea. She likes taking other people’s dogs for walks. Anytime 🙂
Andrew took up the position of Clerk to the Parish Council in October 2019. Since moving to Lower Froyle in 2009, he has been involved in a variety of village activities including Parish Plan and Village Design Statement development and implementation, Speedwatch, and actively supports village social events including the fete, Open Gardens and Village Hall based activities. Andrew enjoys bellringing at St Mary’s and playing golf with other residents. Both he and his wife Karen are extremely grateful for the warm welcome and lasting friendships they have made since moving here.
The Parish Clerk role is key to ensuring that the Parish Council is run efficiently and thereby allowing it to actively reach out and support both the wider community and individual residents. The timing of when the Clerk position became available coincided with Andrew looking for a new challenge to use his time and the skills he had developed over a long career in corporate and consulting roles. To do this for the benefit of the village was a perfect match for him.
